The Town of Essex extends from the centre hub of Essex County down to the shores of Lake Erie. Consisting of four distinct centres – Essex Centre, Harrow, McGregor and Colchester – the town traces its lakeside roots back to the New Settlement of the late 18th century and its inland roots back to 1873 when the Canada Southern Railway laid tracks across the Talbot Trail.
Essex has the largest concentration of wineries in Essex County, extensive field crop lands, many horse farms and expanding specialty crop production. Our beautiful Lake Erie coast is increasingly popular for cycle tourism, wine tours and annual waterfront related activities.
Major attractions include the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village, John R. Park Homestead, Essex County Steam and Gas Engine Museum, Essex Railway Station and Essex Centre’s Outdoor Mural Gallery. Popular events include the Colchester Walleye Derby, McGregor Music Festival, Essex Fun Fest, Explore the Shore on County Rd. 50, Essex County Steam and Gas Engine Show, and the Harrow Fair.
