April Art Gallery Exhibits in Windsor Essex

Enjoy the exhibits at one of the many galleries in Windsor Essex.

Art Gallery of Windsor

February 17 – May 13, 2018
Arthur Shilling: The Final Works – This engaging exhibition showcases an incredibly creative period during which time Shilling produced powerful portraits that reflect contemporary identity politics within Indigenous culture. Shilling was both a visionary and an activist who worked to transcend the lines between portraiture and politics.

Leah Modigliani: Washington D.C., 1939; Basel, 1957; Paris, 1958; Berkeley, 1969; Chicago, 1969; London, 1969… –  This is a solo exhibition of works by Leah Modigliani reflecting on themes of history, protest and power narrated through a feminist lens. Embedded within a discourse of representation, Modigliani challenges the ways in which political resistance has been disseminated and archived in popular culture.

Hind v. Hind – The historical landscape works of William Hind and the contemporary landscapes of his great, great, great, nephew Dave Hind are separated by over one hundred years and span a number of generations as well as an extensive period of time in Canadian art history.

An impeccable state – Grayson Richards (Toronto, ON)
The exhibition’s centrepiece, a single-channel video titled Cutting the Stone (2016), portrays a quasi-medical procedure from the perspective of the subject. Referencing Hieronymus Bosch’s painting of the same name (c. 1494), this work evokes existing neurotechnology (in this case, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) and an increasing lack of distinction between difference and illness in the eye of Western institutions.
