Beethoven 250: Laplante Plays Emperor – WSO Digital Concert Series
Saturday, November 21
Beethoven’s mastery of the concerto form is most exemplified by his Piano Concerto No. 5 Op. 73 “Emperor”. Canadian pianist Andre Laplante joins the WSO to perform this piece known for its grandeur, bold melodies, and heroic spirit.
CBC Music describes Leplante’s performances as “passionate, intense, mercurial” and says his playing “never fails to excite.” Leplante brings that passion to the brilliance of Beethoven as he joins WSO for the crown jewel of piano concertos.
The Windsor Symphony Orchestra has partnered with Cooper’s Hawk Vineyards, North 42 Degrees Estate Winery, Pelee Island Winery, and Viewpointe Estate Winery to enhance WSO Digital Concert Series subscribers’ concert experience.
Wines from each vintner have been selected for each of our three Beethoven concerts. Using musical “tasting” notes about each concert, the wineries selected a wine that balances and augments the musical works to deliver the perfect sipping experience. Just as a great food and wine pairing improve a dining experience, the musical notes of our Beethoven 250 concerts compliment the tasting notes of Essex County vintners!
Beethoven was a bona fide wine aficionado and upon receiving a case of wine while on his deathbed, his last recorded words were: “Pity, pity – too late”. The WSO celebrates his 250thanniversary by combining his two greatest passions – music and wine.
Some of the wines that can be paired with the WSO Digital Concert Series include: a Gewürztraminer from Cooper’s Hawk Vineyards, a Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc from North 42 Degrees Estate Winery, the Vinedressers Cabernet Sauvignon from Pelee Island Winery, and the Colchester Cuvée from Viewpointe Estate Winery.
Pairing recommendations, tasting notes, and links to purchase the wines are all available at www.windsorsymphony.com.
