Fall Migration at Holiday Beach
Monday, November 2 to Monday, November 30
Each year, we welcome guests to Holiday Beach Conservation Area to experience one of the best birding hotspots in Canada, and the spectacular hawk migration.
Due to continued restrictions on gatherings, the Hawk Tower will remain closed to the public, as physical distancing in that space cannot be safely met.
Guests are still welcome to visit Holiday Beach Conservation Area to enjoy the thousands of hawks flying overhead, as well as to hike or cycle along the newly renovated boardwalks and trails.
Holiday Beach is recognized as a globally significant Important Bird Area (IBA), joining BirdLife International’s global network of IBA sites. The designation is as a result of the significance of the area for raptor migration and as a known breeding area for Prothonotary Warblers (a nationally endangered species). Each year, thousands of hawks, vultures, eagles, falcons and other birds of prey concentrate in the area before heading across the Detroit River towards warmer, more southerly destinations for the winter.
