National Wildlife Week Festival

April 10 marks the Birthday of Jack Miner, Canada’s first conservationist! Seventy-one years ago, The Canadian Government declared the week of Jack Miner’s birth, April 10, 1865 to be National Wildlife Week in honour of Jack’s contribution to the Canadian conservation movement.
Highlights of National Wildlife Week include:
April 8, 2018
7:30 am – 11:30 am: Dress Down Sunday Pancake & Sausage Breakfast Sponsored by Jobin Rock Farm. FREE. Donate $5.00 and get a free coffee mug.
10 am-4 pm: Enjoy Kingsport Environmental Raptor demonstration, Kids’ activities, Essex Hunting Retriever Club demonstration, and tours of the Jack Miner Historic House and Museum. Donation.
April 10, 2018
12 pm – 2 pm: Happy 153rd Birthday Jack Miner! Stop by the historic house for cupcakes & refreshments and to kick off phase two of The Jack Miner Drive Thru Art Gallery.
April 11, 2018
6:30 pm –Join us for a Walk & Talk in the Miner Woods, hosted by naturalist & bird expert Phil Roberts. Meet in the Jack Miner Heritage Centre.
April 13, 2018
8 pm – The Sun Parlour Folk Music Society proudly presents JP Cormier & Dave Gunning in the Playfair Stadium at the Sanctuary. Tickets are $25. Bring a cushion to sit on!
April 14, 2018
Jack Miner’s 153rd Birthday bash featuring ALMOST FAMOUS and THE ROCK FARM BAND! Food by Chef Larry Wood. Cash bar: coolers, beer & wine. Tickets are $30/person, $55/couple and only available in advance until April 11 at the Jack Miner Sanctuary, Alterations by Liz/Blondie’s Cleaners (49 Main Street East) and Back in Motion Chiropractic (22 Heritage Road).
Proceeds from this year’s Jack Miner Birthday celebration have been earmarked for the further development and enhancement of nature, birding, walking and riding trails on the south side of the property. Don’t miss out!
