Poetry at the Manor
Tuesday, October 2, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
This will be the sixth intimate evening of poetry readings and audience interaction hosted by Windsor’s Poet Laureate, Marty Gervais at historic Willistead Manor. This audience-favourite event has become an annual tradition for the City of Windsor’s Poet Laureate program, with Marty leading a group of guest poets in this interactive event each year.
For 2018, in addition to Marty, guest poets laureate include:
– Marilyn Gear Pilling (Poet, Hamilton)
– Chloé LaDuchesse (Poet Laureate, Greater Sudbury)
– John B. Lee (Honorary Poet Laureate, Norfolk County)
– Dr. Afua Cooper (Poet Laureate, Halifax)
– Lauren Best (Poet Laureate, Owen Sound)
The evening features book sales and signings, desserts and light refreshments. Seating is limited, and the event ends up being standing-room-only year after year (which is, truly, part of the magic of the evening).
This year’s event is extra special, as it marks Marty Gervais’ last time hosting as Poet Laureate. In 2018, Windsor’s next poet laureate will be selected, with Marty becoming the City’s Poet Laureate Emeritus – a position of honour and distinction – as the program moves forward.
