The WSO pays homage to Point Pelee National Park, the southernmost point of the Canadian mainland. Commissioned by the WSO in 2018, Pelee by Canadian composer Jeff Smallman commemorates the 100th anniversary of Point Pelee – one of our continent’s most important landmasses for migratory birds and the first national park in Canada to be established for conservation. Composer Jeff Smallman discusses his inspiration for writing Pelee with Maestro Franz.

Combining the musical nature walk with a bit of time travelthis concert features two pieces that showcase the harpsichord, a complex musical instrument most associated with the baroque era of music. WSO musician Boris Medicky shows his mastery of this instrument in Rameau’s amusing and fun, Sixth Concert “La Poule” and the blisteringly virtuosic harpsichord concerto, J.C. Bach’s Concerto for Harpsichord in B-Flat, Op. 13 No. 4.
