The MacKenzie Tour PGA TOUR Canada event arrives in town July 2 – 8 for the Windsor Championship. While the 156-player event offers a $200,000 purse, this stop on the pro-tour is about a lot more than golf.

The week-long event involves all facets of our community. While there’s no doubt that area golf fans can expect to see some outstanding golf, there is a broader value for area businesses and the community as a whole.

The economic benefits alone are considerable. Local businesses, restaurants and hotels can expect an economic spinoff of about $2 million, said Tour president Jeff Monday. In addition, the Windsor Championship is a not-for-profit event with Hospice guaranteed a $100,000 contribution in the first year.

Among some of the other highlights are: a Pro-Am day where Windsor-Essex businesses will team up with the pros and the Windsor Spitfires Junior Pro Am Day for our rising golf stars. The pros tee off Thursday through Sunday at Ambassador Golf Course.
