Pumpkin Carving this spooky season
October 2020. Our display windows be full of ghoulish titles, and once again our second floor “Hole in the Wall” has been invaded by some pretty scary creatures.
We are hoping to start a start a tradition that grows and grows over the years – – a pumpkin carving contest that’s open to kids and adults alike. Not only will we display the winning designs in our front windows but we plan to let them light up the sidewalk as well.
Adult division and Kids (12 and under) division
Winner in each division wins a River Bookshop gift card. $60 for Adult, $30 for Kids.
Contestants supply their own personally carved pumpkin with small battery operated candle

Olde Amherstburg Ghost Tour – Augmented Reality
Launching October 29 at 4 pm
Calling all history and ghost buster enthusiasts! The historic Town of Amherstburg in partnership with Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island will launch a new Augmented Reality (AR) ghost tour this fall. The new app can be downloaded at any time by anyone with a smartphone.
This unique, interactive tour will explore the sinister stories and hair-raising history of one of Ontario’s most historic towns. The tour includes tales of haunted museums, child apparitions, rum runners, and one of Canada’s most famous 1813 naval battles. Peer into the past, see inside notable buildings, and bring ghosts to life before your very eyes. This application is one of the first of its kind for the Southwest Ontario region.

Drive Thru Trick or Treat
October 31, 2020. The WFCU Credit Union is holding a Trick-or-Treat Drive Thru Event, at their four drive thru locations (Amherstburg, Leamington, South Windsor and Tecumseh) on Halloween afternoon, Saturday, October 31st, 2020, between 3pm and 5pm. Strict Covid-19 safety measures will be in place
Children will receive a Halloween treat bag filled with activities and candy to enjoy.
When participating in WFCU Credit Union’s Trick-or-Treat Drive Thru Event, participants are asked to follow the below instructions:
- Arrive at one of WFCU Credit Union’s four drive through locations (Amherstburg, Leamington, South Windsor or Tecumseh).
- Pull up to our drive thru teller window.
- Children are encouraged to say ‘trick-or-treat’ from the safety of the vehicle and WFCU Credit Union staff will hand treat bags through the drive thru drawer.
- The adult driving the vehicle is asked to retrieve the treat bags from the drive thru drawer.
- Once treat bags are retrieved, please move ahead so that the vehicle behind you can participate in the trick-or-treating fun.

Kingsville Annual Pumpkin Parade
November 1, 2020. Don’t throw those pumpkins away! Bring your pumpkin to the park between 12 pm – 4 pm and the volunteers will set it up along the path along with providing a battery-operated tea light.
From 6pm to 8 pm bring your family and come and visit the park where the pumpkins will be aligned and provide lots of family fun. Following the event, the pumpkins will be donated to a local farm where they will be utilized for animal feed.

Sunday October 18, 2020. Beginner class. Learn how to paint striking cat eyes and do a stunning ombre effect in the background. The drawing will be on the canvas already, so we will be focusing on painting techniques, such as blending and colour selection. Gain insight into the methods of a working artist as she walks you through the steps to creating this beautiful painting.
The teacher is Windsor artist, Steph Mason, who paints a variety of subjects using rich colours, in a range of styles. All supplies are provided. You will leave with your very own piece of art. Ages 12+
